Packaging Specialist

The job

As Packaging Specialist, the main purpose of your role will be to centralise the packaging function, being the expert in packaging for the company. You will be responsible for cost saving initiatives, ensuring packaging availability at all times and building strong relationships with material and machinery suppliers.

The role will involve regular liaison and engagement with packaging suppliers to ensure products are compatible to the machinery, the strength of materials are fit for purpose and to identify efficiency improvements.

You will also ensure lead times are correct for re-order and call offs, ideally creating a Kanban style re-order system with a threshold for minimum order times.

Your experience

You will possess an excellent understanding of packaging purchasing processes together with packaging technology knowledge – this role may suit a Packaging Technologist who has previous purchasing responsibility.

Core skills:

• Ability to understand and communicate certain packaging material constraints to production i.e. temperature acclimatisation from Warehouse to Production environment.
• Analytical skills to determine current packaging usage and availability.
• Packaging marketplace pricing knowledge.
• Able to identify areas for cost savings.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship building skills.
• Kanban scheduling experience (desirable).
• Experience or an interest in sustainable packaging (desirable).

More details

The Packaging Specialist job is based in the Home Counties / East Anglia region and is paying £30,000 - £35,000 according to individual skills and previous experience.

The company would also consider part home and part office working for the right candidate.
